Godox iT32 innovates small flash game

Godox recently announced the iT32 flash alongside their x5 trigger. Therefore innovating the small flash game. I know what is going on my Christmas list for budding photographers. With Its compact size hiding its true power. Not in light output, but in flexibility and included options at a surprisingly affordable price point. Staying true to their current brand identity and more importantly their seemingly ever growing X wireless system.

The hotshoe/trigger section

Firstly; starting at the bottom, the iT32 innovates with an x5 wireless trigger available in five flavors to suit your brand preference. From Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, to Olympus variants are available. With different color trigger sections to help delineate different brand versions. Allowing the trigger to function as a controller for not only the iT32 but any other light within the X system.

The Flash

The flash unit above the trigger snaps magnetically onto the trigger screwed into the hotshoe. Making removal for off camera use quicker and easier. A color touchscreen allows for adjusting the controls. Typical of their full size speedlights, this one offers tilt and swivel for on camera positioning. A built in diffuser and reflector offer more options for light modification.

A smaller unit does make some compromises. Much the same as lenses or anything else. The compact size does limit the output power. With featuring a GN of only 18 meters at iso 100.

Innovations Together

The trigger section upon placing the flash section automatically recognizes the camera system. After that allowing Full TTL control and HSS supported across the differently branded triggers.

Conversely detaching the flash unit, automatically places the trigger into wireless mode. Enabling wireless control of the iT32 and any other X system light. Making multi-light setups simpler than ever.

Other stuff

The iT32 and x5 combo includes a rechargeable battery with USB-C connection for both charging and firmware updates.

An led modeling lamp also comes included and of course the ability to use other magnetic flash modifiers.

Conclusion

I have long been a fan of Godox’s long standing X system. It is quite a step up from the Yonguo solutions I toyed with previously. Well worth the investment, I have found. Recent and not so recent additions in their speedlights, that were and are very welcome; in built x system; rechargeable batteries included (vs using AA’s) usb-c connections, upgradeable firmware and some of their lights now also include modeling lights. While not a large or powerful light, only packing a GN of 18 meters; versatility and compactness help. Thus, I am always excited to see the next things coming from Godox and the iT32 x5 combo is no exception. Godox innovates the small flash game, again.
